History of Computers

History of Computers

Earlier the computer was very large and it was impossible to move from one place to another. And due to its high cost, this type of computer used to be in a large institution. But as the computer got upgraded. By the way, computers were being used in small institutions. But now the computer has become a General Purpose object for us. Without computers, our lives become incomplete. Now everyone has a computer.

Some early calculating devices are ABACUS, Napier's Bones, Pascaline, Difference Engine. And Analytical Engine. Were. Let us discuss them in detail.

Abacus:-

The abacus was the first Calculating devices. It is made up of a wooden Frame with rods, each having beads. The frame is divided into two parts - Heaven and Earth. Each rod in Heaven has 2 Beads and the Earth has 5 beads.

It was used to perform simple calculations like Addition, Subtraction, multiplication and Division. It was developed in Chine and it still in use in many countries, especially in countries of Asia and Africa.

It is used to teach school children about place values in the numbering system and also for teaching arithmetic operations and blind students.

Napier's Bones:-

The Napier's Bones, also called Napier's Rods. Was invented by the Scottish mathematician John Napier in 1616. It consists of nine bones or sticks with numbers marked on them. It was used for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and to find the square root of a number.

Pascaline:-

The Pascaline was invented by Blaise Pascal in 1641. It was the first mechanical calculator. It consisted of a rectangular box with moveable wheels. It was used for Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and dividing numbers up to hundreds and thousands.

Difference Engine:-

Charles Babbage invented a machine called the Difference Engine in the nineteenth century to prepare mathematical tables. It could perform complex mathematical calculations.

Analytical Engine:-

Charles Babbage also invented the first general-purpose computer known as the Analytical Engine. which has the same basic elements as the modern computer - input, output and memory devices. it could performs all arithmetic operations - addition, subtraction multiplication, division and many more functions.
